Handling Trauma

Trauma situations include falls, crashes, and violence. EMRs must know how to treat injuries and prevent further harm.

Bleeding Control

  • Direct Pressure: Use a sterile dressing and press firmly.
  • Tourniquets: Apply for severe limb bleeding that won’t stop.
  • Elevation: Raise the injured part above the heart if possible.

Treating Shock

  • Keep the patient warm and comfortable.
  • Monitor vital signs.
