Managing Medical Emergencies

Recognizing Medical Crises

EMRs encounter a wide range of medical emergencies, from heart attacks to diabetic issues. Recognizing signs and symptoms quickly is crucial.

Common Medical Emergencies

  • Cardiac Arrest: Sudden collapse, no pulse, not breathing.
  • Stroke: Face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty.
  • Diabetic Emergencies: Confusion, sweating, unconsciousness.

Interventions

  • CPR: Begin chest compressions and rescue breaths if the patient is not breathing and has no pulse.
  • AED Use: Automated External Defibrillators are easy to use and can restore heart rhythm.
  • Oxygen Administration: Provide supplemental oxygen if available and indicated.

Applying Your Knowledge
