Checking Your Work

Make Sure Your Answers Are Correct

After solving a math problem, it's a good idea to check your work. This helps catch mistakes and makes you a better math student!

How to Check Your Work

  • Count your answer again.
  • Use the opposite operation (add if you subtracted, subtract if you added).
  • Ask a friend or adult to look with you.

Checking helps you feel proud of your work and learn from any errors.

Examples

  • Counting your answer twice to make sure it's right.

  • Using subtraction to check an addition problem, like checking 3 + 2 = 5 by doing 5 - 2 = 3.
