Fundamental mathematics concepts for first grade students including basic arithmetic, counting, and number sense.
Numbers are everywhere! From counting your toys to the number of stars you see at night, we use numbers every day. In first grade, it's important to know what numbers mean and how to count them in order.
Counting means saying numbers in the right order, like 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on. You can also count backward, which is called counting down: 10, 9, 8, 7...
It's not just about saying numbers, but also seeing them and knowing what they represent. When you see the number "5," it means five things—like five apples or five fingers.
We can compare numbers to see which is bigger or smaller. If you have 3 cookies and your friend has 7, who has more? Your friend!
Counting helps us keep track of things, play games, and solve problems every day.
Counting the number of crayons in a box.
Comparing who has more marbles during playtime.
Counting and number sense help us recognize, count, and compare numbers in everyday life.
