Patterns and Sequences

Discovering Patterns Everywhere

Patterns are repeated designs or sequences, and sequences are lists of numbers that follow a rule.

Types of Patterns

  • Number Patterns: Like 2, 4, 6, 8 (add 2 each time)
  • Shape Patterns: Circles and squares repeating

Finding the Rule

Look for what changes each time. Is it adding, subtracting, or multiplying?

Why Patterns Matter

Patterns help us predict what comes next and solve puzzles more easily.

Real-World Uses

  • Planning music beats
  • Organizing a schedule

Examples

  • Identify the next number in 3, 6, 9, 12.

  • Find what shape comes next in a repeating pattern: circle, square, circle, square.

In a Nutshell

Recognize and predict patterns and sequences in numbers and shapes.
