5th Grade Math

Advanced operations, measurement, and data analysis for fifth grade students.

Basic Concepts

Multi-Digit Multiplication and Division

Mastering Bigger Numbers

In 5th grade, you’ll learn how to multiply and divide numbers with more than one digit! This skill helps you solve bigger problems, like figuring out how many candies are in several bags or how many friends can share a big pizza.

Multiplying Large Numbers

When multiplying, line up the numbers and multiply each digit, starting from the right. Don’t forget to add those zeros when you move to the tens, hundreds, and so on!

Dividing Large Numbers

Long division helps you break a big number into smaller groups. You’ll use repeated subtraction and keep track of what’s left over.

Why It Matters

These skills help you solve real-world challenges, like calculating prices, distances, and sharing items equally.

Tips

  • Always check your work by estimating.
  • Use place value to keep your numbers in line.

Examples

  • Multiply 234 × 12 to find out how many pages are in 12 books of 234 pages each.

  • Divide 1,200 by 8 to see how many students can sit at 8 equal tables.
