Geometry: Shapes, Area, and Volume

Exploring Geometry

Geometry is all about shapes, sizes, and how things fit together.

Types of Shapes

  • 2D Shapes: Squares, rectangles, circles, triangles.
  • 3D Shapes: Cubes, spheres, cylinders.

Area and Perimeter

  • Area: The space inside a shape (\( \text{Area of rectangle} = \text{length} \times \text{width} \)).
  • Perimeter: The distance around a shape.

Volume

  • Volume tells how much space a 3D shape holds (\( \text{Volume of box} = \text{length} \times \text{width} \times \text{height} \)).

Real-World Geometry

Architects, artists, and engineers use geometry every day!

Examples

  • Finding the area of a triangle with base 6 and height 4: \( \frac{1}{2} \times 6 \times 4 = 12 \).

  • Calculating the volume of a box that is 2 x 3 x 4 units: \( 24 \) cubic units.

In a Nutshell

Geometry helps us understand and measure the world of shapes around us.
