TACHS Math

Comprehensive study of tachs math covering fundamental concepts and advanced applications.

Basic Concepts

Numbers and Operations

Understanding Numbers

Numbers are the building blocks of all math! You'll work with whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and even negative numbers. Math problems on the TACHS will ask you to add, subtract, multiply, and divide different kinds of numbers.

Types of Numbers

  • Whole numbers: 0, 1, 2, 3, ...
  • Integers: ..., -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, ...
  • Fractions: Parts of a whole, like \( \frac{1}{2} \)
  • Decimals: Another way to show parts, like 0.5

Working with Operations

You’ll need to follow the order of operations: parentheses, exponents, multiplication/division, and addition/subtraction (PEMDAS).

Tricks and Tips

  • Always line up decimals before adding or subtracting.
  • Change mixed numbers to improper fractions for multiplication.
  • Negative times negative is always positive!

Why It Matters

Understanding numbers is key for shopping, budgeting, and measuring in real life.

Examples

  • Adding \( 5 + 9 = 14 \).

  • Dividing \( 12 \div 3 = 4 \).

In a Nutshell

Numbers and operations are the foundation of all math problem-solving.

Key Terms

Integer
