Plants and How They Grow

How a Tiny Seed Becomes a Plant

Plants start out as tiny seeds. With water, sunlight, and soil, they grow roots, stems, and leaves. As they grow bigger, some plants make flowers or fruit.

What Plants Need to Grow

Plants need:

  • Water to drink
  • Sunlight for energy
  • Soil for support and nutrients

If a plant does not get what it needs, it may not grow well.

The Plant Life Cycle

A seed grows into a small plant, then a big plant, then makes seeds of its own. This cycle keeps going!

Caring for Plants

Helping a plant grow by watering it and giving it sunlight teaches us to take care of living things.

Examples

  • Planting a bean seed and watching it sprout roots and leaves.

  • Seeing flowers bloom in a garden.

In a Nutshell

Plants grow from seeds and need water, sunlight, and soil to live.
