Basic Concepts

Our Senses

Discovering the World with Our Senses

Our senses help us explore and understand the world around us! We use our eyes to see, our ears to hear, our nose to smell, our tongue to taste, and our skin to touch.

Seeing, Hearing, Smelling, Tasting, Touching

Each sense gives us special information. Our eyes tell us if something is big or small, and our ears let us know if something is loud or quiet. With our nose, we can smell yummy cookies or fresh flowers, and our tongue helps us taste sweet or sour foods. Our skin lets us know if something is soft, rough, warm, or cold.

Exploring with Our Senses

Try closing your eyes and guessing what you are holding just by touch! Or listen carefully to the sounds around you and see how many you can name.

Why Are Senses Important?

Senses help us stay safe, enjoy yummy foods, and learn new things every day!

Fun Ways to Use Our Senses

  • Smell different fruits and guess what they are.
  • Listen to bird songs in the park.
  • Taste something sweet and something salty and describe the difference.

Examples

  • Smelling a flower to find out its scent.

  • Tasting an apple to know if it is sweet or sour.
