Scientific Reasoning

What is Scientific Reasoning?

Scientific reasoning is a way of thinking that helps us solve problems and learn new things about the world. Scientists use evidence and logical steps to make conclusions.

The Scientific Method Steps

  1. Ask a Question about something you notice.
  2. Form a Hypothesis (a guess you can test).
  3. Test with an Experiment to gather data.
  4. Analyze the Results to see what happened.
  5. Draw a Conclusion and share what you learned!

Using Scientific Reasoning

Whenever you wonder why the sky is blue or how plants grow, you can use scientific reasoning to investigate and find answers.

Fun in Real Life

Try testing which paper airplane design flies the farthest. Make your hypothesis, experiment, and see what you learn!

Examples

  • Figuring out which type of soil helps a plant grow best.

  • Testing which material keeps ice from melting fastest.

In a Nutshell

Scientific reasoning helps us investigate questions and solve problems logically.
