Discovering Earth's Systems

Earth is made up of several systems that work together to keep our planet running smoothly.

The Four Main Systems

  1. Geosphere: The solid parts of Earth (rocks, soil, mountains).
  2. Hydrosphere: All the water (oceans, lakes, rivers, rain).
  3. Atmosphere: The layer of gases around Earth (air, clouds, wind).
  4. Biosphere: All living things (plants, animals, people!).

How Do Earth's Systems Interact?

  • Rain (hydrosphere) helps plants grow (biosphere) in the soil (geosphere).
  • Winds (atmosphere) shape mountains and rocks (geosphere).

Why Are These Systems Important?

Each system depends on the others. When one changes, it can affect the rest!

Real-World Example

When it rains, water flows over the land, carrying nutrients to plants, showing how the hydrosphere, geosphere, and biosphere work together.

Examples

  • Waves eroding a rocky shore.

  • Plants growing thanks to sunlight and rain.

In a Nutshell

Earth’s systems—air, water, land, and life—work together to make our planet unique.
