Angles and Measuring Them

What Are Angles?

Angles are formed when two lines meet at a point. The space between the lines is called the angle.

Types of Angles

  • Right Angle: 90°, like the corner of a book
  • Acute Angle: Less than 90°
  • Obtuse Angle: More than 90° but less than 180°

Measuring Angles

Angles are measured in degrees (°) using a tool called a protractor.

Why Do Angles Matter?

Angles help us build things, create art, and understand directions!

Examples

  • A corner of a square is a right angle.

  • The hands of a clock at 10:10 form an acute angle.
