Looking Back at the Passage

Double-Check Your Answers

When you’re unsure about a question, it’s smart to look back at the passage. This helps you find clues and make sure your answer is right. Don’t try to remember everything—use the text!

How to Do It

  • Read the question carefully.
  • Go back and find the part in the passage that talks about the answer.
  • Reread that part to be sure.

Checking the passage helps you avoid simple mistakes.

Examples

  • Going back to the story to see what color the main character’s hat was.

  • Rereading a paragraph to find out what happened first in the story.
