ISEE Primary 4 Math

ISEE Primary 4 Math covers essential mathematical concepts and problem-solving skills tailored for fourth-grade students preparing for the ISEE exam.

Basic Concepts

Addition and Subtraction

Adding It All Up

Addition means putting things together. Subtraction means taking things away.

How Addition Works

Stack numbers on top of each other and add each column, starting from the right (ones). If the sum is more than 9, carry over to the next column.

How Subtraction Works

Subtraction finds the difference. Line up the numbers, and if you can't subtract a smaller number from a bigger one, borrow from the next column.

Important Tips

  • Double-check your answers by reversing the operation!
  • Always line up numbers by their place value.

Real-World Applications

  • Adding up points in a board game
  • Calculating total money spent or saved
  • Figuring out how many stickers are left after sharing with friends

Examples

  • 452 + 378 = 830

  • If you have 500 tickets and use 215, you have 500 - 215 = 285 tickets left.

In a Nutshell

Addition puts numbers together, and subtraction takes numbers apart—both are used everywhere in daily life.
