ISEE Primary 3 Reading focuses on developing reading comprehension and critical thinking skills for young learners.
Every author has a reason for writing. The author’s purpose is what the writer hopes you will do or feel after reading. The most common purposes are to inform, entertain, or persuade.
Look for clues in the title, the words used, and the main idea. Ask, "Is the author teaching, telling a story, or trying to make me do something?"
Try to guess the purpose each time you read a new passage!
A story about a superhero saving the day is meant to entertain.
A text telling you how to wash your hands is meant to inform.
The author’s purpose is the reason for writing the passage.
