Building on first grade foundations with addition, subtraction, and early problem-solving skills.
Addition is when you put two or more numbers together to find out how many you have in all. It's like collecting your favorite toys and counting them to see the total!
When you add, you start with one group, then count on with another group. The answer you get is called the sum.
You can use your fingers, blocks, or even snacks to help you add. Drawing pictures or using number lines are also great tools.
When you help set the table, you might count forks and spoons to make sure everyone has one. That’s addition in action!
\[a + b = c\]
You have 3 apples and get 2 more. 3 + 2 = 5 apples.
There are 4 blue cars and 1 red car in a toy box. 4 + 1 = 5 cars.
Addition means putting numbers together to find the total.
