Elimination and Estimation

Smart Choices

If you're unsure of an answer, use process of elimination to cross out obviously wrong choices. Estimation can also help—round numbers or simplify calculations to get close to the right answer. Remember, a good guess is better than a blank!

Examples

  • Eliminating two out of four answers by checking which ones don't make sense.

  • Estimating that \( 49 \times 19 \) is close to \( 50 \times 20 = 1000 \) to check answer choices.
