MAP 5th Grade Math

A comprehensive course preparing 5th graders for the MAP math assessment, covering essential concepts and real-world math skills.

Basic Concepts

Operations with Whole Numbers

Building with Numbers

Understanding how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers is the foundation of all math. These operations help us solve problems at school and in everyday life, like figuring out how much something costs or how many things you have in total.

Addition and Subtraction

Addition is combining two or more numbers to find their total. Subtraction is taking one number away from another.

  • \( 345 + 128 = 473 \)
  • \( 500 - 275 = 225 \)

Multiplication and Division

Multiplication is repeated addition. Division splits a number into equal groups.

  • \( 23 \times 3 = 69 \)
  • \( 72 \div 9 = 8 \)

Real-World Connections

These skills help when shopping, baking, or planning events. If you have 3 packs of 12 markers, you multiply to find out you have 36 markers!

Examples

  • Adding scores from several games to get a total.

  • Dividing a pizza among friends to see how many slices each person will get.
