Working with Money and Measurements

Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals helps with all sorts of real-life problems, like shopping or measuring ingredients.

Adding and Subtracting Decimals

Line up the decimal points and solve just like whole numbers.

  • \( 4.56 + 2.37 = 6.93 \)
  • \( 7.2 - 3.05 = 4.15 \)

Multiplying Decimals

Multiply as if they're whole numbers, then count the total decimal places at the end.

  • \( 1.2 \times 3.4 = 4.08 \)

Dividing Decimals

Move the decimal point in both numbers if needed, then divide as usual.

  • \( 6.4 \div 0.8 = 8 \)

Applications
