Decoding Multiple Choice Questions

Conquering Multiple-Choice Like a Pro

Read each question carefully and look for clues in the passage. Eliminate obviously wrong answers to improve your odds. Pay attention to context—sometimes, a word’s meaning depends on how it’s used. If you’re unsure, make your best guess rather than leaving it blank (there’s no penalty for guessing!).

Examples

  • Eliminating two out of five answer choices to narrow down your options.

  • Looking back at a specific line number to check the meaning of a word in context.
