Checking Your Work with Estimation

Estimation as a Double-Check Tool

Estimation helps you catch mistakes before they happen! Before you finish, try to guess what the answer should be—does it make sense? Use rounding or simple math to make a quick estimate, then compare it to your calculated answer. If the numbers are way off, check your work again.

Examples

  • Round 23.7 to 24 to estimate, then check if your detailed answer is close.

  • If you calculate that a pizza costs $100, you know something's off—try estimating for a reality check!
