The Scientific Method

How Do Scientists Find Answers?

Scientists use a special process to answer questions and solve mysteries. This is called the scientific method.

The Steps

  1. Ask a Question: What do you want to know?
  2. Do Research: Find out what is already known.
  3. Make a Hypothesis: Predict what you think will happen.
  4. Experiment: Test your idea with a fair experiment.
  5. Observe and Record: Watch what happens and write it down.
  6. Analyze Results: Figure out what your data means.
  7. Share What You Learned: Tell others about your findings.

Why Is This Useful?

The scientific method helps us solve problems, make good choices, and learn new things.

Using the Scientific Method

You can use these steps to answer any science question, like "Which type of soil helps plants grow best?"

Examples

  • Testing which paper towel brand absorbs more water by setting up an experiment.

  • Observing which type of bird visits your backyard at different times of day.

In a Nutshell

The scientific method is a way to solve problems and discover new things by asking questions and testing ideas.
