Division with Remainders

Sometimes Things Don't Split Evenly

When dividing, you might have some left over. That's called a remainder!

How to Handle Remainders

  1. Divide as usual.
  2. If something is left that can't be split evenly, that's your remainder.

Why Remainders Matter

Remainders happen in real life, like sharing candies or splitting items.

Example

If you have 13 cookies and 4 friends, each gets 3 cookies and 1 is left over.

Examples

  • 17 divided by 5 is 3 with a remainder of 2.

  • 22 divided by 4 is 5 with a remainder of 2.

In a Nutshell

Remainders are what is left when things don’t divide evenly.
