Making Smart Choices

If you’re unsure about an answer, use the process of elimination. Cross off choices that are obviously wrong, and then make an educated guess from the remaining options. Remember, it’s better to try than to leave a question blank!

Tips

  • Look for answer choices that don’t fit the sentence or analogy.
  • Trust your instincts if you recognize part of the word or relationship.
  • Don’t second-guess yourself too much—your first choice is often right.

Examples

  • Crossing out two answer choices that are antonyms when you’re looking for a synonym.

  • Guessing between two similar choices after eliminating the rest.
