Narrowing Down Answer Choices

When you're unsure of an answer, eliminate obviously wrong choices to improve your odds of selecting the correct one. Look for answers that are off-topic, grammatically incorrect, or don’t match the passage’s style.

  • Cross out answers that repeat the same error as the original sentence.
  • Focus on differences between choices, especially punctuation and word choice.
  • Don't second-guess yourself if your choice matches the rules you’ve learned!

This strategy increases your chances, even when you have to guess.

Examples

  • Eliminating all options with subject-verb agreement errors.

  • Crossing off choices that introduce new errors or awkward phrasing.
