Format and Scoring

How the Tests Worked

Each SAT Subject Test was a one-hour, multiple-choice exam. The number of questions varied by subject, but generally ranged from 50 to 95 questions per test.

Scoring System

  • Raw Score: Each correct answer earned you 1 point, while incorrect answers typically subtracted 0.25 points (except for some language listening tests).
  • Scaled Score: Raw scores were converted to a scale from 200 to 800 to allow for comparison across test dates.
