SAT Math

A comprehensive course to master all the mathematical concepts, skills, and strategies needed to succeed on the SAT exam.

Advanced Topics

Data Analysis and Statistics

Understanding Data

The SAT loves to ask about data: mean, median, mode, range, and interpreting charts or graphs.

  • Mean: The average of numbers.
  • Median: The middle value.
  • Mode: The most common value.
  • Range: Difference between highest and lowest.

Interpreting Graphs

You may see bar graphs, line graphs, scatterplots, or tables. Pay attention to labels and scales!

Real-World Applications

Data analysis is useful in sports stats, survey results, and science experiments.

SAT Tips

  • Double-check which measure the question is asking about.
  • Estimate when possible to save time.

Examples

  • Finding the mean of 2, 4, 6: \( (2+4+6)/3 = 4 \)

  • Reading a bar graph to determine the highest value.

In a Nutshell

Master the basics of data, statistics, and reading graphs for the SAT.

Key Terms

Median
The value in the middle of a data set when arranged in order.
Range
The difference between the highest and lowest values.
