A comprehensive guide to mastering the math concepts tested on the PSAT, including real-world applications and testing strategies.
Numbers are the foundation of all math you'll see on the PSAT. These include integers, fractions, decimals, and real numbers.
Operations are how we manipulate numbers: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The PSAT will expect you to use these fluently, often in combination.
Always remember the order: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication & Division (left to right), Addition & Subtraction (left to right)—often remembered as PEMDAS.
Picture planning a group trip. You need to split the cost of tickets, snacks, and transportation among friends. Knowing how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and decimals will make sure everyone pays their fair share!
Adding \( \frac{3}{4} + \frac{1}{2} = \frac{5}{4} = 1.25 \)
Multiplying decimals: \( 0.4 \times 0.25 = 0.10 \)
Basic math operations with all types of numbers are the building blocks for PSAT Math.
