How Writing is Organized

Text structure is the way information is organized in a passage. Recognizing structure helps you understand what you're reading and find key details.

Common Structures

  • Chronological: Events in time order
  • Cause and Effect: Why something happened and what happened next
  • Compare and Contrast: How things are similar and different
  • Problem and Solution: Finding answers to challenges
