Study Strategies

Time Management During the Section

Timing is Everything

You have about 35 minutes for roughly 4 passages and 26-28 questions. That’s not much time—so pacing is crucial!

  • Set checkpoints: Aim for about 8-9 minutes per passage set.
  • Don’t get stuck: If a question is confusing, flag it and return later.
  • Prioritize easier passages: Tackle passages you’re comfortable with first.

Practice Your Pace

Use a timer during practice sessions to build your sense of timing and reduce test-day stress.

Examples

  • Finishing your first passage in 7 minutes and using the extra time for a harder set.

  • Skipping a tough question and returning with fresh eyes.
