Check Your Work and Estimate

Double-Check and Estimate for Accuracy

Always review your answers! Estimating before and after you solve helps catch mistakes. Look for answers that make sense in the context of the problem. If your solution is way off what you expected, try again! Estimation is especially helpful with big numbers or complicated equations.

Examples

  • Estimate \( 49 \times 22 \) as \( 50 \times 20 = 1000 \) to see if your detailed calculation is reasonable.

  • After solving \( 2x + 4 = 10 \), check by plugging \( x = 3 \) back into the equation.
