Counting On and Counting Back

When adding, you can start with the bigger number and count on. When subtracting, start with the bigger number and count back. This makes solving math problems quicker and easier.

Examples

  • For 4 + 3, start at 4 and count up three numbers: 5, 6, 7.

  • For 7 - 2, start at 7 and count back two numbers: 6, 5.
