Intro to Geometry: Angles and Shapes

Exploring Geometry

Geometry is the study of shapes, lines, and angles. It's all about understanding the space around us.

Types of Angles

  • Acute angle: less than 90°
  • Right angle: exactly 90°
  • Obtuse angle: more than 90° and less than 180°
  • Straight angle: exactly 180°

Common Shapes

  • Triangles: 3 sides, angles add up to 180°
  • Quadrilaterals: 4 sides, angles add up to 360°

Why Geometry Matters

Geometry helps you design buildings, play sports, and even solve puzzles!

Measuring Angles

Use a protractor to measure angles. Add up angles inside shapes to check your answers.

Examples

  • A triangle with angles of 90°, 60°, and 30°.

  • A rectangle has four right angles and opposite sides equal.

In a Nutshell

Geometry is the study of shapes, lines, and angles that make up our world.
