Sometimes, you'll read two or more texts about the same topic or with similar themes. Comparing and contrasting helps you notice what's alike and what's different.

How to Do It

  • Compare: What do the texts have in common?
  • Contrast: What is unique to each one?
  • Look at structure: Are they stories, articles, or poems?
  • Consider the message: Do the authors agree or disagree?
